Terms of Service

Effective August 25, 2026

Please read these terms

By using Init to Crit, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

1. The service

Init to Crit is a browser-based tabletop companion for encounter preparation, combat tracking, campaign organization, generated character speech, exports, and unofficial fantasy skirmish play. Features may be added, changed, paused, or removed as the service develops.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be legally able to enter this agreement. Users under the age of majority should use the service with a parent or guardian’s permission. The service is not directed to children under 13.

Guest access uses a Firebase anonymous account. Google sign-in enables cloud synchronization and paid voice features. You are responsible for your Google account security, the activity performed through your Init to Crit account, and maintaining accurate contact and billing information.

3. Free and paid features

Core combat features are available without any account or pledge. Voice Pro (generated voice lines and cinematic recaps) is unlocked by connecting a Patreon account with an active pledge at a qualifying tier, through the Account & Data screen. One pledge on our Patreon campaign covers both Init to Crit and our sibling app Debrief. Available tiers, monthly voice-character and recap allowances, and any promotion are described on our Patreon page and may change to reflect provider cost, Patreon's own terms, or availability, with reasonable notice for material changes.

4. Patreon membership, renewal, and cancellation

Patreon, not Init to Crit, processes your pledge and any related charge, and pledges renew on Patreon's own billing cycle until you change or cancel them there. Connecting Patreon through Init to Crit lets us check your pledge status and grant matching access in Init to Crit and Debrief; it does not change how or when Patreon bills you.

You can disconnect Patreon from Init to Crit at any time in the Account & Data screen. Disconnecting stops Init to Crit-side access but does not cancel the pledge itself — that must be done on Patreon. Deleting your Init to Crit account disconnects Patreon and ends access to all remaining voice or recap allowances for that account immediately; it does not cancel your Patreon pledge. Review the Refund & Cancellation Policy before deleting an account with an active pledge.

5. Your content

You retain your rights in the campaign notes, encounters, character information, dialogue, and other original material you submit. You grant Init to Crit and its service providers a limited licence to host, process, transmit, and reproduce that content only as needed to operate, secure, and support the service.

You represent that you have the rights and permissions needed for submitted content. Do not submit confidential information, personal information about another person without permission, or content that violates law or another party’s rights.

6. Voice generation use

Generated voices are synthetic and may be imperfect, inconsistent, or unsuitable for a particular use. You are responsible for reviewing output before playing, publishing, or distributing it. Do not use Init to Crit to impersonate a real person deceptively, facilitate fraud or harassment, create unlawful content, or violate OpenAI’s applicable usage policies.

7. Acceptable use

You may not attempt to bypass authentication, billing, quotas, rate limits, or security controls; probe or disrupt the service; automate abusive requests; resell access without permission; upload malware; scrape protected content; or use the service unlawfully. We may suspend access reasonably necessary to investigate abuse, protect the service, or comply with law.

8. Ownership and tabletop trademarks

Init to Crit’s software, design, branding, and original documentation are owned by the service operator or its licensors. Open-game rules content is provided under its applicable licence. “Dungeons & Dragons,” “D&D,” Roll20, D&D Onslaught, and related names and marks belong to their respective owners.

Init to Crit is an independent, unofficial companion. It is not endorsed by, sponsored by, or affiliated with Wizards of the Coast, Hasbro, Roll20, or the publishers of D&D Onslaught.

9. Availability and disclaimers

The service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, error-free calculations, permanent storage, compatibility with every device, or that generated content will meet your expectations. Init to Crit is a game aid, and the Dungeon Master remains responsible for rules decisions and session outcomes.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Init to Crit and its operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or lost-profit damages arising from the service. Where liability cannot be excluded, aggregate liability will not exceed the amount you paid to Init to Crit during the six months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be limited.

11. Termination and deletion

You may stop using Init to Crit at any time. The Account & Data screen can permanently delete the Firebase login and associated app data. We may suspend or terminate access for a serious or repeated breach of these Terms. Provisions that reasonably need to survive termination—including payment obligations, ownership, disclaimers, and liability limits—will survive.

12. Governing law and changes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without limiting mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live. We may update these Terms as the service changes. Continued use after an effective-date change means you accept the revised Terms.
